Notes from November 24th

Hello Ladies! 

I wanted to post some blocking/music notes from tonight so you can think about them during our tech run tomorrow. Just a note, a tech run is for the lighting and sound technicians to make sure everything is running properly. For us, it means a lot of repetition, waiting, and patience. Remember to bring some homework, reading, or quiet entertainment for when you're off stage. 

Also, below I have posted Stage Manager Erin's notes on etiquette during our Tech/Dress rehearsals. It's very important that you read everything but please don't get too stressed. It's just necessary that we stay focused, tidy, and respectful, especially with the number of people that will be there. You're all wonderful humans and I know you'll be great!

FROM TONIGHT

Hey Ho 

• Remember you are FREEZING. What would you do if it was cold out and you weren't wearing warm clothes?
• When you walk down off the platforms and onto the floor, make sure you walk quietly and fill out the entire space.

Wind

• Musically, remember to be big! Think Julia Child... a nice round space in the back of your mouth, vowels tall and full. Here's a video of her making a cheese soufflé. 

Hanget Soi

• Rhian/Rowan: Don't go all the way off stage when your brothers scare you. Instead, wave to your friends to join you on stage. 
• Remember your "Julia Child" singing, especially when you are without XCTE at the beginning! Don't allow your acting to overshadow your sound. 
• Change: Jeanette's text has been added to overlap with your singing! Make sure you keep singing and don't get distracted. 
• REVIEW all the words for Hanget Soi, but especially before letter E: "lä-pi-mur-hee-ni muis-to-jen koit-taa"
• Any time you are holding a note, be happy! Hold = Happy!

Jul, jul

• Change: Your line is no longer curved. Make sure you're further up stage and in a straight line.
• Remember, the words for the second verse is COME NOW, not jul, jul.
• Watch your tuning. The higher notes (like the high C in the melody) tend to be a bit under pitch. Don't sing them louder, just make sure you prepare before you jump to the higher notes - think Julia Childs, or that you have an egg shaped space in your mouth. 

You all looked great tonight. The next step is hair and make up. It would be great if you were to try out some styles and make up tomorrow for the tech rehearsal. :)

I just wanted to take a moment to talk about Tech/Dress Rehearsal etiquette. This is a huge undertaking, with a lot of moving parts, and limited time to accomplish all of the essential final preparations in the space. Some things to keep in mind for Wednesday and Thursday : 

1. When you are in the theatre space, please keep side conversations to a bare minimum. Lots of decisions will need to be made, and Claire, Christina, Matt, Matt and I will be triaging issues as they arise. The less we have to compete with other conversation the easier :) 

2. If you see something that isn't working, or that could be improved, know that we have probably seen it as well. If it isn't urgent (i.e. something has arisen that is physically impossible for you to do), please make a mental note of it and pass it along to me during a time when you see an opportune moment. We promise to do our best to deal with all of the concerns that you might have, but at certain points we have to make a choice about what is essential and what we can let slide. 

3. If there is a problem that you can easily and quietly fix on your own (that doesn't impact others), please do so. Shifting your standing position very slightly to allow for sight-lines would be something that falls into this category :)   

Other, general notes: 

• clean up all your makeup; tables have to be wiped each night
• you are responsible for your costumes
• everything has to be hung or folded in the appropriate place 
• all props put back according to instructions
• no food/garbage left in the dressing rooms each night
• please don’t eat in your costume
• most of these clothes are nicer than normal costumes, so please respect them and take care of them
