Notes for Friday June 5

Hi all!!

Thank you for such great work last night. It was clear you all put in time over the last week to prepare. We made great progress and if we keep all putting in some hard work over the next few days, we will absolutely be able to take this show to the next level!

Schedule for the Weekend

Friday June 5
Dress/Tech Rehearsal
6-10 pm
Bethany United Church

Saturday June 6
1-4 pm Dress Rehearsal
4-6 pm Dinner Break
6 pm Show Call
7:30 pm Show Starts
Bethany United Church

On Friday, please arrive at least 10 minutes before 6pm so that we can start at 6pm sharp. We are going to go over a few areas of the show that need some extra attention before we do the run with lighting and video projection!

On Friday you need to bring the following things:
  • your script and music
  • water bottle and pencil
  • your full costume including shoes
  • makeup and anything you need to do your hair (if you can come with hair and makeup already done, that would be ideal)
  • backpack/purse/school bag
  • paper and pencils (if you are in the classroom or newspaper office scenes)
  • all ticket money or unsold tickets
Music Things to Work on BEFORE Friday

  • Adiemus music:
    • work on your memorization so that you can focus on being expressive
    • really be careful about tuning - every section has a tendency to sing flat in this song
  • Like A Rainbow music:
    • The opening section needs to be more delicate - it’s very heavy and clunky now - big tall vowels will help!
  • You Are the New Day music:
    • S2 check your part at “send the sun in time for dawn, let the birds …” and “thoughts that we as humans small could slow …”. You often end up singing alto here and we need the harmony of your part.
  • Tiger Tiger music:
    • Memorization of the words needs work!!!
  • Mad World music:
    • Generally you sound great but you are all singing like soloists and not listening to one another so the blend and the unison of our rhythm is not together.
  • Sih'r Khalaq music:
    • Break the song down into small sections to work your memorization. Master one section before going to the next.
    • S1s you’ve got most of the singing down but you are forgetting almost all of your clapping!!
    • S2s, I know it will be less intimidating when we have Teagan back but your memorization needs lots of work
Adiemus Blocking

As you all know this was the piece where the blocking was definitely quite wonky! We have the overall concept down but it's the timing that isn't working. To review, here it is:

Start in Two-Row formation at back of stage
Back row: Sandler Julie Teagan Riel Phoebe Anna Mattea
Front row: Sylvan Zoe Rory Brittany Claire Emma

Letter A/B - step forward, one step per bar on beat 1 (8 steps total)
Letter A/B repeat - step backward, one step per bar on beat 1 (8 steps total)
Letter C - hold hands
Letter D - move to a Double U Formation
REPEAT OF FIRST THREE PAGES WITH THE FOLLOWING BLOCKING (Jenny piano solo):
Letter A/B - Front row turn around to face the back row, all join hands start to walk in to centre, lift arms at the same time
Letter C - Break apart the formation and face the front
Letter D - Make your way back to the Two Row formation at the back of the stage
Letter E - Two-Row formation at back of stage, step forward, one step per bar on beat 1 (8 steps total)
Letter G - hold hands
Letter H - move to a Double U Formation
Letter I - “ya-ka-ma” people move to middle of formation, everyone else spread out around them facing in
 “ya-ka-ma” people stay still
everyone else sway R on “a-ya-coo-ah-eh” and then left of the slide up “eh”
top of page 8 at 1st soprano “ya-ka-ma me-ah” all move to Mixed Scattered
